Corey tops county lists

Last week, four bowlers topped the 700 mark for a series. Kevin Corey of Beverly Hills Bowl had the best week by far, placing first on the county lists for high single game and second for high series. Corey, who bowls in the Wednesday Summer Funtime League at Beverly Hills, finished with a 713 series on the strength of a high game of 279. He competed in leagues at three different bowling centers in the county (Neffer's, Beverly Hills and Manatee) and finished the 2005-06 regular season with a 214 average overall. He had one of the few 800 series in the county on August 25, 2005, at Manatee Lanes during its Jay-Cee Night Hawks League. Jackie Alsup of the Jim Lynch Fence Fun League at Beverly Hills had the best series of the week with a 724 total. He bowls in leagues in the North Suncoast and is a regular at Hudson Bowl in Pasco County for its Hammer Classic League, where he averaged 214 in 24 games. Alsup bowled in the regular season at Manatee Lanes and Neffer's Bowl and is competing in both the Summer Funtime and Jim Lynch leagues at Beverly Hills this summer. In January at Neffer's, he tossed a 290, scoring his first USBC achievement in a year and a half. Other than that, his career totals are impressive with three perfect games and four 800 series. The other two bowlers to attain the 700 marks last week were Mark Smith, also of Beverly Hills Bowl, and Jonathan Taylor at Neffer's Bowl. Smith competes in the same Summer Funtime League as Corey and hit the 700 on the button with a 269 high game. The game was second only to Corey's 279 for best in the county. His 210 average while bowling at both Parkview Lanes and Beverly Hills last season was a testament to high level in the sport. He had one USBC achievement this year with a 298 game on February 20. Taylor led all Neffer's bowlers with his 700 during the center's Odd Balls League every Tuesday. His top game in the series was a 264, good enough for fourth highest in the county. Although he competes at Neffer's, Taylor only competed in one regular season league in 2005-06, the Jay-Cee Night Hawks League. VERSATILE SHEEHY: Susan Sheehy, who is bowling this summer in the Summer Mixed League at Manatee and the Summer Funtime League, was the only competitor to register two series scores in the county's top 10. During the Manatee league, Sheehy compiled a 656 series (eighth best), and in the Beverly Hills league she totaled a 681 (fifth best). The high game of her Manatee series was a 255, which placed her ninth on the high game list. Sheehy's accomplishments are not surprising, though, as she already has the reputation as one of the best female bowlers in the county. She averaged 200 this past season while bowling in four different leagues. In March 2005, she tossed a perfect game, the only one to her credit. NO-TAP 300: Al Lambert, a Manatee Lanes regular, competes in Thursday's Youth/Adult 9-pin No-Tap League. The basic premise of a no-tap league is that a nine-count on the first ball gives you a strike instead of having to pick up single pin spares. Because of these rules, a perfect game is obviously unofficial, but Lambert's 809 series score and 300 were the best no-tap scores this week.
