LARGO - A 46-year-old man who had just begun serving a one-year sentence for robbing a supermarket collapsed Friday inside the Pinellas County Jail and died, authorities said.

Homicide and internal affairs detectives were investigating, as is standard in such cases, but the death did not appear to be suspicious, said sheriff's Sgt. Jim Bordner.

John Duncan McLachlan was sentenced Thursday to a year in jail after pleading guilty to felony petty theft, records show.
