Concerts, fireworks dominate Independence Day celebrations

CLEARWATER 

* The city is celebrating Independence Day with three days of free concerts at Coachman Park, 301 Drew St., ending with a fireworks display July 4.

Gates open at 4 p.m. today for concerts by Jefferson Starship, Family Stone Experience and New Rhythm Method.

Gates open at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a patriotic concert featuring John and Mary K. Wilson and the Mostly Pops Orchestra. The event will conclude with evening fireworks.

Both lanes of the Clearwater Memorial Causeway will be closed from 9 to 10 p.m. for the fireworks.

* The Clearwater Library Foundation is sponsoring a celebration at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave.

Ice cream, apple pie, popcorn and lemonade will be served in the atrium. A movie, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, will be shown.

Participants can watch the fireworks from the rooftop terrace. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Proceeds benefit the foundation's programs.

* AMVETS Post 67 is having a picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, chips, games and fireworks from 4 p.m. to closing Tuesday.

The post is at 1825 Highland Ave., near Sunset Point Road.

DUNEDIN

* The city is celebrating with "Music & Fireworks" today at Knology Park, 373 Douglas Ave., with music from 7 to 9:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display. Admission is $2, and children 12 and younger are admitted free.* Festivities at American Legion Post 275 begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the post, 360 Wilson St.

LARGO

* The reggae band Verdict, concessions and a fireworks show will be featured at the city's celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive. Bring chairs and blankets. Pets, coolers, alcohol and personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted in the park.

Free shuttle parking will be available at Largo High School and the Pinellas County School Board parking lots. Paid on-site parking also will be available.

* First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks is presenting a musical production of I Still Believe in America on Tuesday at 12685 Ulmerton Road. Dinner - ribs, barbecue chicken and other picnic fare - will be available from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Center for a nominal fee. The free show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center and feature performances by the church Celebration Choir and Orchestra.

SAFETY HARBOR

* The city's annual free Independence Day festivities are planned for 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Caribbean and reggae band Impulse will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. on a stage at the end of the marina near the bay. The 12-piece Buddy Verdi Orchestra will present a patriotic salute from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Kelly Conley, 12, will sing the national anthem before the fireworks display at 9 p.m. Best viewing areas for the fireworks are the Safety Harbor Marina and the back lawn of Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.

A family zone for children will be set up across from the Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History on Bayshore Boulevard. Food and beverages will be available.

TARPON SPRINGS

* A fireworks display will begin at dusk Tuesday from Sunset Park Beach on Gulf Road.

Best viewing areas are Fred H. Howard Park beach and causeway, 1700 Sunset Drive. No personal fireworks, including sparklers, will be allowed in the park. Parking will be available at Howard Park's lots.
