Gulf Beaches/NW advances in tourney

Gulf Beaches/Northwest stayed alive in the District 5 Major Baseball All Star Tournament with 5-3 win against Azalea. Mitch Murphy went the distance, striking out 11 while Barrett Pluskat supplied the offense with a homer and a double. GB/NW's Nate Starns added a single and Nick Capitano a double.
Northeast beat Cross bayou 11-3.
JUNIOR BASEBALL: Pinellas Park slipped past Seminole 8-7.
SENIOR BASEBALL: Chris Collazo smacked his second homer of the postseason as Pinellas Park National shut out Gulfport 10-0. Collazo connected on a two-run shot and David Mulltul picked up the win on the mound.
MAJOR SOFTBALL: Northeast/Southwest rallied for eight runs in the sixth inning to beat Baypoint 11-7. Caroline Pupke and Danielle Paquette had three hits apiece for NE/SW and Jennifer Crossthwaite fanned eight for the win.
Megan Lewis got the win as Pinellas Park National/Gulf Beaches beat Gulfport 20-3. Brandy Smith, Cimberlee Leffler and Alexandra Sims led the offense for PPN/GB.
JUNIOR SOFTBALL: Baypoint beat Gulfport/Southwest 7-0 and Azalea beat Meadowlawn/Northwest 6-2.
DISTRICT 12
MAJOR BASEBALL: Tarpon Springs finished with 12 hits - including Zack Coleman's third three-hit game of the postseason - and beat Countryside 12-2. Nick Miller struck out seven to pick up the win.
JUNIOR BASEBALL: Casey Turgeon collected four hits as Palm Harbor rolled to a 17-4 win against West Pasco. Larry Lanni and Steve Scirappa each had three hits for Palm Harbor while James Petika earned the complete-game victory.
OTHER SCORES: West Pasco won 19-0 against Oldsmar in 9-10 Softball and Countryside beat West Pasco 9-1 in Junior Softball.
