Key city officials in Inverness to get significant pay raises

The Inverness City Council voted Wednesday to increase the salary ranges of key city officials and to repair city equipment badly damaged by a lightning strike.

Council members decided to give increases of several thousand dollars to key positions, including the city clerk and director-level positions, including the public works and parks and recreation directors.

Clerk Debbie Davis said the increases were needed so Inverness could continue to attract top talent.

"With the cost-of-living growth we've seen in Florida, it's going to continue to become more difficult to pull in qualified people," Davis said.

The council also voted to spend $16,000 to replace equipment damaged by a lightning strike on the city's water tower May 11.

The money will eventually be reimbursed by the city's insurer, minus a $5,000 deductible.
