Man arrested on child porn charges after traffic stop

PINELLAS PARK - A traffic stop turned to the arrest of a St. Petersburg man on child pornography charges Sunday afternoon.

At 2:12 p.m., a Pinellas Park police Officer stopped Kenneth Raymond Halscott, 61, for going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone at the 9500 block of Belcher Road.

Halscott of 6351 Fifth Ave. S began to ingest what the officer thought was marijuana and ran to nearby bushes to throw away a film canister. Police found child pornography on a digital media card.

Police said a 5-year-old girl, related to Halscott was in the car with him. She was in some of the images that police think were taken earlier Sunday.

Halscott was arrested on seven counts of possession of child pornography, one count of obstruction without violence, one count of marijuana possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $71,500.

Sheriff's deputies seek jewelry store robber

TAMPA - Hillsborough sheriff's deputies were searching Sunday evening for a man who robbed a jewelry store kiosk at University Mall.

The man used a gun to smash open a glass case at the Gold Valley Jewelry kiosk about 5:25 p.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. He possibly removed some items before fleeing through the northeast exit of the Fowler Avenue mall.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 247-8200.

Body found may be victim of hit-and-run crash

TAMPA - A 39-year-old man was killed about midnight Saturday in an apparent hit-and-run, according to authorities. The Sheriff's Office had not released the victim's name Sunday evening pending next-of-kin notification.

The body was discovered in the southbound lane of 15th Street just north of 128th Avenue, Carter said. No vehicle description was available. Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 247-8200.
