Tampa mall pairs its couture with pinot

International Plaza adds a wine bar that specializes in samples, several retailers and a salon.

TAMPA - The Grape, an elegant wine bar/sippery that encourages lots of sampling, has signed a deal to open this fall in International Plaza's Bay Street.

The 6-year-old Atlanta chain is one of several pioneers selling wine by pairing samples of its 150 selections with foods selected to accentuate them. The Grape sells wine by the bottle, glass or half glass.

The store, which typically requires a build-out investment of $2-million, will be the 25-location chain's 10th in Florida, but its first in the Tampa Bay area.

The Grape is one of six new stores that the 200-store International Plaza signed up for this fall. Others are the region's first PUMA athletic shoe store, Aeropostale, Skechers, Toni & Guy Salon and Toscani, an upscale luggage store.

The mall recently also opened newcomers Eleganza Leather, Bebe Sport, Earl of Sandwich, Sigrid Olsen, luggage retailer Novita Viaggi and Iridesse, a jewelry store owned by Tiffany & Co. that specializes in pearls.

Managed by Taubman Centers Inc., the mall is still looking for tenants to fill gaping holes left by Todai, Kahunaville and half the second floor of Lord & Taylor.
