Pigskin pair make state list

By STEVE LEE
Published July 12, 2006

Rivals.com has listed two Pasco County football players in its top 100 state list.

Land O'Lakes quarterback Joe Weatherford ranks 74th and Gulf signal caller Alton Voss is No. 100.

The site features career highlights and videos for both. It also includes lists potential college choices for the pair.

For Weatherford, whose brother Drew set county records for passing yards and touchdowns before becoming Florida State's quarterback, eight schools are listed. Central Florida is Weatherford's top choice. Other schools are Connecticut, Louisville, Ole Miss, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Ohio.

Weatherford could see early playing time at UCF since quarterback Steven Moffett will be a senior.

According to the site, Voss has no clear-cut favorite. Schools he is interested in include Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, South Florida, Central Florida and West Virginia.

Weatherford, who had a strong showing at a NIKE camp in Gainesville in May, passed for 1,945 yards with 14 touchdowns in leading the Gators to a region quarterfinal last season.

A dual threat with strong legs and a rifle arm, Voss led the Bucs to a turnaround (5-5) season. He combined for 2,418 yards (1,314 passing, 1,104 rushing) and 26 touchdowns.
