Family offers reward in grave robbery case The family of Stevie R. Dale, the 6-year-old whose remains were stolen from his grave in late June, plan to announce a reward for information about the thieves today. Dale's family and residents will meet in Tampa at Lee Davis Neighborhood Service Center at 3402 N 22nd St. They plan to hand out fliers along 22nd Street, hoping to figure out what happened at the grave. Police are still investigating but so far have few leads. Weapons stolen from officer's unlocked car When a cop tells you to lock the car door, he means it. St. Petersburg police Officer Damien Schmidt left his Glock 22, a personal handgun and Taser in his personal car May 14. When his daughter went to retrieve her bookbag, he told her to lock the door. She forgot and the $2,000 in weapons were stolen. Schmidt was reprimanded because he didn't follow policy to lock the weapons in his trunk. Lightning leaves Tampa airport in dark Lights flickered and went out, elevators and escalators stopped, windows rattled and the rain fell sideways Thursday afternoon at Tampa International Airport. It took a few minutes to reset the lights and the escalators but flights were not affected. "It was all definitely caused by lightning," said airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan. "Just your typical summer shower." Treasure Island mayor on mend after surgery Treasure Island Mayor Mary Maloof, injured Sunday in a crash on I-4 in Tampa, underwent back and neck surgery Tuesday at Tampa General Hospital. On Wednesday, she was able to sit up and walk, according to family friend Tricia Boat-Sorbie. Without Walls to hear Redner the candidate Joe Redner hasn't exactly gotten religion, but the Tampa strip club owner and seemingly perennial political candidate will take center stage Sunday at Without Walls International Church. An avowed atheist and candidate for Hillsborough County Commission, Redner will speak at the invitation of Bishop Randy White, the church's founder. White has not endorsed Redner, his business interests or his free-speech platform, but said he wants to provide an open forum for a "legitimate candidate" whose positions deserve a public hearing. "Anything less would defeat the whole notion of what Without Walls International Church was created for," White said Thursday in a news release. Redner expects to talk for about 15 minutes during the church's 11 a.m. service on the importance of protecting the environment.
