IceHouse Theatre offers some truly cool shows

Published July 14, 2006

One of Mount Dora's biggest delights is the Mount Dora Theatre Company at the IceHouse Theatre, about a mile northeast of downtown at 1100 N Unser St.

The 270-seat theater was built in 1958, 10 years after a community theater group had started doing plays and musicals in a converted icehouse elsewhere in town. It has three full-time staffers - an executive director, an artistic director and a marketing manager - as well as five paid part-time staffers.

The theater presents five major shows a year, a special summer show, a youth musical and several holiday events. Each major show is presented 19 to 24 times over a four- or five-week run. Specials run from two or three times to four weeks.

TODAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: Once on This Island Jr., a youth musical

July 28-Aug. 20: Greater Tuna, a comedy

Sept. 15-Oct. 15: Singing in the Rain, a musical

Nov. 17-Dec. 10: The Nerd, a comedy

Jan. 12-Feb. 11: Damn Yankees, a musical

March 9-April 1: Neil Simon's Rumors, a comedy

May 4-27: Blithe Spirit, a mystery

Tickets are $18.50 for adults; $16 for ages 55 and older for Thursdays and matinees only; $10.50 for students. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays, with some Saturday matinees. Call (352) 383-4616 or buy tickets online at www.icehousetheatre.com.
