Man found shot to death in car

TAMPA - A man with a gunshot wound was found dead in the front seat of a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex near the University of South Florida late Thursday afternoon.

Hillsborough sheriff's deputies said a resident of Beechwood Apartments, 13707 21st St. N, reported finding the body shortly after 5 p.m.

The man was described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, and was slumped over in the driver's seat of a newer model Nissan Altima.

Felicia Jones, 29, who lives in the apartment building, said she noticed the car outside around 1:30 p.m., but didn't recognize it, and assumed someone was visiting. She said when deputies arrived later in the day, the vehicle seemed to have shifted its position.

The site is near a district office of the Sheriff's Office, but also in the same block as Holly Court Apartments, where two men in a minor traffic accident in April got into a fight, one armed with a baseball bat, the other with a gun. In the melee that developed, a 19-year-old woman who had come out to see what was going on was shot in the arm.

Bite marks on toddler lead to arrest

SEFFNER - Deputies say a 2-year-old Brandon girl left in the care of Billy Joe Kay returned with bruises and human bite marks.

Kay, 22, of 902 Orange Blossom Lane was arrested at 6:15 a.m. Thursday on charges of aggravated child abuse, according to an arrest report.

Deputies say the child's mother left the toddler with Kay on May 7. When she picked up the child, she noticed the toddler was injured, deputies said.

The woman reported the incident and told deputies it wasn't the first time the child has had bruises and bite marks after being left with Kay.

Deputies issued a warrant for Kay's arrest. He was held at the Hillsborough County jail on $100,000 bail.

Man accused of luring, raping girl

PLANT CITY - Deputies say an 18-year-old Plant City man lured a 16-year-old girl and her friend to his home, then locked the girl's friend in his garage and raped the girl.

Michael Dwight Rose, who lives at 4003 Holloway Road, faces charges of sexual battery with threats to retaliate, according to an arrest report. He was arrested at 4:20 a.m. Thursday. He is being held at the Hillsborough County jail without bail.

Deputies say Rose persuaded the girl, an acquaintance, to come to his home, then he held her friend captive before attacking the girl. The girl later escaped and freed her friend from the garage, deputies say.
