Seven Rivers recognized among best

By ELENA LESLEY
Published July 15, 2006

CRYSTAL RIVER - Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center is one of America's Best Hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine notes Seven Rivers in its July 17 edition, recognizing the hospital for providing up-to-date patient care outlined by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

"We are proud to have been granted this honor," said Joyce Brancato, chief executive officer of Seven Rivers.

Of the 1,800 hospitals that participate in the associations' Get with the Guidelines program, Seven Rivers fell in the top 10 percent for compliance.

Brancato said the hospital had made significant efforts in adhering to protocols for treating coronary artery disease.

"Numerous studies show that certain therapies improve the outcome," she said, "such as placing a patient on aspirin therapy after discharge."

Patients are also instructed to eat low-sodium diets and not smoke, she said.

Staff members at Seven Rivers "have turned guidelines into lifelines," she said.
