Demolition paves way for new development

MADEIRA BEACH - Sawdust and seabreeze mixed this week at John's Pass Village as demolition of three older buildings was completed, paving the way for construction of three new two-story buildings that will provide 12,000 square feet of retail space for restaurants and storefronts.

Hubbard Enterprises chief financial officer Patty Hubbard said the razing of the old wooden structures was swift, with the first building demolished in 21 minutes flat.

The new structures will update the historic fishing village's identity and will be built to withstand winds of up to 130 mph.

The $14-million project is slated to wrap up before year's end.
