The Palm Harbor Newcomers Alumnae and Friends is offering a special luncheon program at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club, 1055 East Lake Woodlands Parkway. Matt and Renee Hunter of East Lake, who first met as professional skydivers, will speak and show a video of their trip, "Around the world in 80 months." They sailed with their two children for more than six years, with adventures like escaping from pirates and swimming with whales. Guests are welcome. More Preserve offerings The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Road, is offering these programs soon: - Reptiles of Florida from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday . Center staff will share some secrets of reptiles, such as why turtles cross the road and why snakes stick their tongues out. The program for all ages is free for children under 3, and $3 for those older than 3. Advance registration is required. - Wildlands Investigators Camp for students entering sixth or seventh grade next school year, with a session 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24-28. The cost is $125. Public welcome at Montessori open house Palm Harbor Montessori Academy is offering an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25 at their Westlake campus, 2355 Nebraska Ave. The public is invited to meet the staff and learn about Montessori enrichment programs. Parents can play while kids play at Y The YMCA of North Pinellas is offering a Parents' Night Out Pool Party for kids 5 and up from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the YMCA, 4550 Village Center Drive. Participants will be tested for swimming ability and given wristbands based on level of skill. The night also will include pool games, a movie, popcorn, pizza and juice. Events coming soon at East Lake library The East Lake Community Library, 4125 East Lake Road, is offering: - Author's showcase featuring Tim Dorsey, who writes wacky Florida-based crime novels, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He will talk about his background, his writing and the influence of Florida on his books. And he will autograph and sell books. - Book club at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday featuring Digging to America by Anne Tyler. - Teen book club at 5 p.m. Thursday featuring The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. - Teen back to school makeover at 5 p.m. Thursday, with a professional giving tips on skin care and makeup. - Knit night at 7 p.m. Thursday. AAU baseball team holding fall tryouts The Florida Panthers AAU competitive baseball team is having fall season tryouts July 23 and Aug. 6 for players under 11 and under 12 as of April 30, 2006. Congregations offer meals, tai chi Congregation B'nai Emmunah, a Reform Jewish synagogue at 3374 Keystone Road, works with Mt. Moriah AME Church, 722 S Disston Ave., to feed the hungry on Sundays. Volunteers meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs church to prepare a free meal they serve from 4 to 5 p.m. The synagogue also is offering tai chi and chi kung classes for all ages at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays with certified instructor Jim Rosenthal.
