FLORIDA LIBRARY YOUTH PROGRAM PRESENTS JOHN STORMS' "WORLD OF REPTILES": 10:15 a.m., Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. This is a free program, about one hour. Parents and guardians must remain on library premises while their children attend the event. The program is for children ages 5-12. 540-6391.

HERNANDO REPUBLICANS HOST "IT'S CHILI IN JULY" EVENT: 6 p.m., VFW Post 10209, 15166 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. Republican candidates or their representatives will serve their own chili, which will be voted on. A prize will be awarded to the chili with the most favorable votes. There will also be a hot pepper-eating contest. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. 796-2088 or 796-4204.

WINE TASTING EVENT TO BENEFIT ARC: 4 to 7 p.m., Weeki Wachee Liquors, 6286 Commercial Way (Weeki Wachee Plaza). There will be food, raffles and prizes. The cost is $10 per person. All proceeds will benefit Arc, a nonprofit organization that provides support and services for Hernando County residents with developmental disabilities and their families. 544-2322.

BROOKSVILLE CITY HALL ART GALLERY: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville. The summer exhibit runs through Sept. 5. Displays include a patriotic theme. Cascading down from the second floor balcony are stars and stripes, hearts and flowers and geometric shapes, courtesy of quilters Sherri Bell, Gene Chambers, Louise Robinson, Noreen Sullivan and Judy Vohs. The coordinators of this exhibit are Bonnie Staveski and Ruth Redeker. Other artists displaying their works include Mary Jane Groton, Janet Huddelson, Shirley M. The class will examine the concepts and planning that professional landscapers use to create vibrant landscapes. Plant placement, selection and care will be discussed. GUIDE DOG AWARENESS DAY: 9 a.m. to noon, Hill N' Dale Park, 6460 Boxwood St., east of Brooksville. Visitors can meet guide dogs and puppies from trainers with Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer, at no cost, the use of professionally and humanely trained guide dogs to blind individuals.
