A weekend for vampires to lie low

Published July 27, 2006

Okay, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, it's time to get your geek on.

This weekend, SlayerCon stakes its claim on Tampa. Buffy and Angel fans will converge for panel discussions, games, parties and a costume contest, plus the chance to buy merchandise and meet actors from the shows. Events begin at 6 p.m. Friday and end Sunday night.

The biggest draw of the event is Amy Acker, who played science whiz Fred and the demon Illyria on Angel (and who appeared in the final season of Alias). You can schmooze with Acker at the Saturday night banquet and see her during the day on Sunday for a question-and-answer session, photos and autographs.

The other featured guest, appearing all weekend, will be Vincent Kartheiser, better known as Angel's son Connor on Angel.

The faithful can also meet other "bonus guests": Jonathan Woodward (Knox on Angel, guest appearances on Buffy and Firefly); Mark Metcalf (the Master on Buffy); Bianca Lawson (slayer Kendra on Buffy); and Camden Toy (the "Ubervamp" from Buffy).

Tickets range from $75 for a single day (which includes reserved seating and an autograph from Acker or Kartheiser) to a $450 platinum VIP weekend pass. (Additional fees will be charged for some photos and autographs.) Tickets can be purchased at the convention, at the Westshore Airport Doubletree Hotel, 4500 W Cypress St. For information, go to www.vulkon.com/tampaslayer2006 or call (954) 559-3202.
