Liverpool lad

Once upon a time, it was John, Paul, George and . . . Pete. In the Beatles' earliest days in Liverpool clubs and the cellars of Hamburg, it was heartthrob Pete Best who gave the band its beat. Best left the band in 1962 (to be replaced by Ringo Starr), but he never dropped the drumsticks. Pete Best and the nine-piece Best of the Beatles orchestra play two shows this weekend at the Royalty Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater. The concerts, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, are benefits for the 110-year-old Royalty, which is celebrating the seventh anniversary of its reopening. Tickets are $30-$50; call (727) 441-8868.
