Two accused of trafficking in painkillers

By TIMES STAFF WRITER

TAMPA - Hillsborough Sheriff's detectives have arrested a Sun City couple on charges of stealing prescription painkillers from a Sun City assisted living facility and selling them on the street.

Ramon D. Ramones, 32, and his girlfriend Regina V. Garcia, 33, of Sun City were arrested Thursday as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, said sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway. Both were being held in jail Friday without bail, charged with trafficking in illegal drugs.

Detectives from Hillsborough's major violators unit seized 142 Darvocet pills, 28 morphine pills and 43 oxycodone pills from Ramones' car.

Garcia, who worked at Cypress Creek Assisted Living Residence, apparently took prescription drugs that had been discontinued and were meant to be destroyed, said a spokesman at the facility.

"She was taking them from where she worked," Callaway said.

Ramones then sold the drugs in the Ruskin area, according to detectives.

Callaway said more arrests are possible.
