National Night Out to shine light on crime

Neighbors, businesses and the Sheriff's Office will join together Tuesday to heighten awareness and to improve spirit in the community.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is coordinating plans for Tuesday's 23rd annual National Night Out.

Participants in National Night Out include residents, the Sheriff's Office, businesses and neighborhood crime watch groups. The purpose is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and also to improve community spirit and assist in building partnerships between law enforcement and the community.

Events and activities will take place throughout the county and will include:

- Forest Oaks Crime Watch, 6 to 8 p.m., 8125 Forest Villas Circle.

- Hernando Beach Crime Watch, 7:30 to 9 p.m., Forest Glenn Club House, 1431 Friar Tuck Lane, off Osowaw Boulevard.

- SHARP Crime Watch, 4 to 8 p.m., 1461 Parker Ave. (old fire station), Spring Hill.

- Weeki Wachee Crime Watch, 6 to 8:30 p.m., Weeki Wachee Area Club, 7442 Shoal Line Blvd.

- Deerfield Estates Crime Watch, 5 to 9 p.m., at the clubhouse off Candy Road.

- Wellington Crime Watch, 7 to 8 p.m., at the clubhouse, 400 Wexford Ave.

- Timber Pines Crime Watch, 5 to 7 p.m., 6872 Timber Pines Blvd.

- Ridge Manor Area Crime Watch, 4 to 6 p.m., Ridge Manor Community Center, 34240 Cortez Blvd.

- Brookridge Crime Watch will host a golf cart parade beginning at the clubhouse at 7 p.m., led by the sheriff's DARE car.

- Tangerine Estates Crime Watch will host a convoy through the neighborhood starting at 7:30 p.m. at 16118 Lacanto St.

- Springwood Estates Crime Watch, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., 3393 Gator Trail.

- Regency Oaks Crime Watch, 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the community center, Breakwater Boulevard.

- Pristine Place Crime Watch, 7 to 9 p.m., at the clubhouse, 4350 St. Ives Blvd.

- Hill N' Dale Crime Watch, 6 p.m., at Hill N' Dale Park, 6460 Boxwood St.

- Primrose Lane Crime Watch, 7 to 9 p.m., Joshua Court (in the cul-de-sac).

- High Point Mobile Patrol, High Point Clubhouse, 6 to 8 p.m., 12249 Clubhouse Road.

- DaMac Estates Crime Watch, 4 to 10 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus on Campbell Drive.
