Report details attacks by Gitmo prisoners

WASHINGTON - Prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay during the war on terror have attacked their military guards hundreds of times, turning broken toilet parts, utensils, radios and even a bloody lizard tail into makeshift weapons, Pentagon reports say. Incident reports reviewed by the Associated Press indicate military police guards are routinely head-butted, spat upon and doused by "cocktails" of feces and bodily fluids collected by the prisoners. They've been repeatedly grabbed, punched or assaulted by prisoners who reach through the small "bean holes" used to deliver food and blankets through cell doors, the reports say. Serious assaults requiring medical attention are rare, the reports indicate. One detainee "reached under the face mask of an IRF (initial reaction force) team member's helmet and scratched his face, attempting to gouge his eyes," states a May 27, 2005, report on an effort to remove a recalcitrant prisoner from his cell. Man tries to scale White House fence WASHINGTON - A man wearing no shoes or shirt and carrying no identification tried to climb over the fence along the North Lawn of the White House Monday evening, the Secret Service said. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said uniformed agents arrested 30-year-old Michael Talley, a Washington resident with no permanent address, about 6:50 p.m., before he reached the top of the fence. Talley was taken to a Washington police station and will be charged with unlawful entry, a misdemeanor in the District of Columbia. President Bush was in the White House when Talley tried to climb the fence. Woman dies during home liposuction FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - A couple who authorities say performed liposuction in the basement of a home were charged Monday with practicing medicine without a license after a female patient died. Luiz Carlos Ribeiro, 49, a native of Brazil, and Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro, also 49, pleaded not guilty to the unauthorized practice of medicine and drug charges at their arraignment. Luiz Ribeiro was ordered held on $250,000 bail while his wife was held on $50,000 bail. Both were ordered to surrender their passports.
