Some worthy employee will win $10,000

Know a Hillsborough County school employee who deserves a check for $10,000? This could be their year. The school district is looking to recognize a teacher or employee who embodies the theme: "We delivered." A committee will solicit nominations for the award offered in partnership with the Hillsborough Education Foundation.

Absentee ballots go quietly abroad

In the past couple presidential elections, absentee ballots were the Antietam of electoral battles. The major political parties scratched and clawed over each one. But this is not a presidential election year so the competition is more subdued. Still, there are folks overseas who want to vote in the primary for governor, school board and other races. So without the fanfare of political strategists trumpeting their numbers, our local supervisors of elections this week dutifully mailed those overseas absentee ballots. Here's a local breakdown: Pinellas, 1,200; Hillsborough, 1,659; Pasco, 191; Hernando, 114; and Citrus, 307.

Red: the color of stolen money

Be on the lookout for a man with some unusual stains on his lower body and hands who probably doesn't want to talk about it. Tampa police say he robbed a bank and stuffed the loot down his pants. Then the dye pack exploded. He ditched the money and kept running. "He's definitely a marked man," said police spokeswoman Andrea Davis. He was described as a black man in his mid-20s with a muscular build and balding head. He wore a white, long sleeve T-shirt and, at least temporarily, had on dark jeans. He hit the Bank of America at 3439 W Hillsborough Ave. Wednesday around noon.
