Sex industry weighs in on rules

By TIMES STAFF WRITER
Published August 3, 2006

TAMPA - Hillsborough County commissioners heard from two sex entertainment industry attorneys Wednesday who urged them to slow the march toward enacting new public nudity rules that would greatly restrict the activities of people who work in the business.

One speaker who favors tighter nudity regulation offered support to the board as it considers changes that would require, among other things, that employees in the sex entertainment industry obtain licenses.

It was the first of two public hearings on the proposed changes.

The second, Aug. 16, should be much more lively. Commissioners will hear dueling arguments over whether the adult industry causes adverse effects in the community - like increased crime and health problems - that would pose a legitimate excuse for government to regulate those businesses more stringently.
