NEW YORK - All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes signed a $23.25-million, four-year extension with the Mets on Thursday, ensuring him a home through 2010. Reyes, the Mets' leadoff hitter, leads the majors in stolen bases and triples and is near the top in hits and runs. Reyes, 23, could have been eligible for arbitration after this season and could have become a free agent after the 2009 season. - Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez feared for his career after injuring his right shoulder in a car accident Sunday in Florida, the New York Daily News reported. The right-hander was riding in a cab with his cousin and a friend when a car slammed into them. "I called my mom and my girlfriend immediately," Sanchez, 26, told the newspaper. "I could see the bone on the top of the shoulder. I started to cry." CARDINALS: Right-hander Jeff Weaver will stay in the rotation despite an 8.68 ERA in his four starts. D'BACKS: Right-hander Brandon Webb is expected to miss a start with a sore pitching elbow. Reports from a side session were positive.
