MIAMI - A man accused of fatally shooting an Illinois tourist who stopped to ask directions turned himself in to police Friday, authorities said.

Brandon Antron Rolle was arrested in the robbery and murder of Ronald Gentile. He was charged with first-degree murder and additional charges are possible, Miami police spokesman Delrish Moss said.

Rolle was going to be transported to Miami Dade County Jail after investigators finished interviewing him. Moss would not say whether Rolle confessed to the crime. It was not immediately known if Rolle had an attorney.

Authorities say Gentile - a furniture salesman from Homewood, Ill. - was here celebrating his son Paul's 17th birthday. He dropped the teen off at his restaurant job, and the two planned to meet later Saturday to watch a movie.

Police said they believe Gentile, 54, pulled over in the Coconut Grove area to ask for directions when a man approached the car, robbed and shot him. Gentile was seen exiting his rental car, running a short distance, then collapsing. He was pronounced dead en route to a hospital.

Authorities would not say where or how many times Gentile was shot. Rolle stole a diamond ring, a gold bracelet, a necklace and a wallet from Gentile, police said.
