Saturday classes teach self-defense tactics

Oldsmar Parks and Recreation is offering two defensive tactics courses for those age 16 and older at the Senior Center, 127 State St.

Defensive Tactics I, at 8 a.m. Saturdays, will cover basic concepts of striking, punching, kicking and escape.

Defensive Tactics II, at 9 a.m. Saturdays, will build on skills learned in the first class.

The cost is $30 for four classes with a recreation card. Call 813 749-1195.

Add your story to oral history project

The Oldsmar Public Library and the Oldsmar Historical Society are working together to collect oral histories of those living in Oldsmar. If you would like to create an oral history of your life, the library will provide a cassette recorder and two blank minicassettes with instructions. Call (813) 749-1178.

Fall baseball, softball signup dates set

Oldsmar Little League is registering players for fall baseball and softball at Canal Park, 3120 Tampa Road, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 23 and 30, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 19 and 26. Call Ken Flick at (813) 854-3848 or Gail Leppert at (813) 855- 4708.

Ski team gives a free show on Saturdays

The Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team will perform a free show at 6 p.m. every Saturday this month on Tower Lake.

Tower Lake is behind the Oldsmar Flea Market. To get to the show from Tampa Road, go north on Race Track Road, left on Douglas Road and left at the small ski team sign.

City Hall features sculptures, watercolors

Oldsmar is offering an exhibit throughout the month featuring sculptures by Joseph Rotella of Tampa and watercolors by Anne Kavanagh of Palm Harbor at City Hall, 100 State St. W. Sculpture by Rotella is included in the Vatican collection. And Kavanagh uses watercolors to visualize the music of Mozart, Prokofiev and Debussy, among others. Call (813) 749-1260.
