Police search for runaway, son

By TIMES STAFF WRITER
Published August 7, 2006

ST. PETERSBURG - Police on Sunday searched for a 15-year-old who ran away with her son from a group home for teenage mothers.

Police suspect Danielle Clark still may be in the Tampa area and traveling with a 35-year-old Hispanic man named Alex, Sgt. Joanne Lindsay said.

Lindsay said it appears Clark met the man through a phone chat line.

Police said Clark, who is under supervision by the Department of Children and Families, left the St. Petersburg home about 10 p.m. Saturday. She took her 1-year-old son, Travis Williams, and some baby supplies, Lindsay said.

Clark had been warned she would lose custody of her son if she didn't start acting more responsibly, Lindsay said. Authorities said that a fear of losing her son may have prompted Clark to run away.

Police fell short of issuing an Amber Alert on Sunday for Travis, listing him instead as missing and endangered.

Anyone with information can contact Detective David Wawrzynski at (727) 551-3448 or the St. Petersburg Police Department's nonemergency number at (727) 893-7780.
