WASHINGTON - Arizona moved to bolster its shaky rotation, acquiring right-hander Livan Hernandez from the Nationals on Monday for two minor-league pitchers.
Hernandez, 31, is 9-8 with a career-worst 5.34 ERA in 24 starts. He has had a sore knee most of the season but has come on lately, on Sunday allowing two runs in seven innings at San Diego.
The Nationals received right-hander Garrett Mock and left-hander Matt Chico, both 23. They will report to Double-A Harrisburg.
O'NEIL HOSPITALIZED: Former Negro Leagues star Buck O'Neil was resting comfortably in Kansas City, Mo., after being hospitalized over the weekend.
O'Neil, 94, was admitted Saturday after complaining that he didn't feel well, said Bob Kendrick, a friend who is also marketing director for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
"Mostly the doctors just wanted to be extra cautious with him," Kendrick said. "They just wanted to slow him down a little."
REDS ADD PITCHER: An injury to right-hander Gary Majewski spurred Cincinnati to acquire right-hander Ryan Franklin from the Phillies for cash and a player to be named. Majewski told the team he has a sore shoulder.
BRAVES: Andruw Jones has gotten over being placed on waivers. The team reportedly put its All-Star centerfielder on waivers last week to test trade options, angering him. Jones said general manager John Schuerholz never spoke with him about it, but added, "I'm okay."
YANKEES: Leftfielder Hideki Matsui is scheduled to have his injured left wrist re-examined Friday, when he could be cleared to intensify his workouts.
