Brad Cooper has exhibited hundreds of fine artists in his Ybor City gallery since opening in 1984 and his every-other-year biennials have become highlights of the late summer, early fall season.
This year Cooper and guest curator Corey Postiglione, a painter, critic and teacher who lives in Chicago, explore "Landscape in the Postmodern."
Thirty-five artists from as far away as Paris are participating with paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography and prints.
As always, Cooper has an eye for works combining formal composition, excellent technique and content that doesn't always reveal itself in obvious ways. Some of the art is beautiful in a traditional sense, such as Chris McCauley's Abandoned Hatchery Pond, an encaustic on panel shown here. Others stretch the definition of a landscape.
"Landscape in the Postmodern" opens Saturday with a free reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brad Cooper Gallery, 1712 E Seventh Ave., Tampa, and continues through Oct. 7. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment. (813) 248-6098 or www.bradcoopergallery.com.
