Not your average fairy tales

By JOHN FLEMING
Published August 10, 2006

Summer Bohnenkamp-Jenkins, Jason Evans, Kari Goetz, David Jenkins, Shawn Paonessa and Roz Potenza play princesses, peasants, henchmen, witches and various creatures in Grimm's Faery Tales, the latest from Jobsite Theater. "Rarely can you tackle the tough issues of gay marriage, the war in Iraq, nuclear proliferation and the AIDS crisis in Africa - so we didn't," a news release says. Instead, the company puts the Brothers Grimm into a Saturday Night Live-style sketch format, opening Friday and running through Aug. 27 in Shimberg Playhouse at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday and are recommended for ages 16 and older. $18.50, with a preview for $10 tonight at 8. (813) 229-7827; www.tbpac.org.
