DADE CITY - Two women were killed on Interstate 75 early Sunday morning after they were ejected from their vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victims as Crystal R. Nipitella, 23, of Hudson and Carolynn J. Hanna, 25, whose residence was not available.

Troopers said the 2002 Jeep that Nipitella was driving was northbound on I-75 just after 2 a.m. when it drifted into the median. The Jeep overturned before stopping in the southbound lanes.

Why the Jeep drifted off the road was still under investigation. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Traffic was backed up for nearly five hours.
