Concert returns to the Cuban Club

By JOHN FLEMING
Published August 17, 2006

The occasion will be drenched with nostalgia when Spanish Lyric Theatre presents its annual concert of traditional Cuban music, Asi Cantaba Cuba, at the Cuban Club in Ybor City.

It will be the first time in many years that songs such as Guantanamera, Nosotros or Quizas, Quizas, Quizas will be heard in the historic building. The singers, from left, will be Roberto Ferrer, Mary Gonzalez and Jorge Acosta. Steve McColley will conduct the orchestra, and Rene Gonzalez will provide narration in Spanish and English.

A Cuban lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by the concert at 2:30 p.m., both in the cantina of the club, at the corner of Palm Avenue and Avenida Republica de Cuba (14th Street), Tampa. $30 for lunch and show; $20 for show only. (813) 936-0217 or (813) 248-3594.
