Dapper dogs have their days

These truly are the dog days of summer.

At the Florida State Fairground, more than 100 American Kennel Club-certified breeds will show Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fairgrounds are on U.S. 301 off Interstate 4, Tampa (use U.S. 301 entrance). Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children. Parking is $5. (813) 621-7821.

At the Clearwater Threshers game Saturday, dogs are welcome with their owners at Bark at the Ballpark. There will be doggie contests and treats, plus a silent auction that benefits the Humane Society of Pinellas County. (Two areas will be set aside for spectators who don't want to be seated near dogs.)

The activities begin at 6 p.m. Saturday; the game against the Sarasota Reds starts at 7:05 at Bright House Networks Field, 601 Old Coachman Road, Clearwater. $3-$8 for humans; $3 per dog. (727) 467-4457.
