  • For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Music

Hair, now and forever

By SEAN DALY
Published August 17, 2006

By far the prettiest headbangers of all time, the boys of Poison are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary of big silly hits and big silly coiffs.

That two-decade span is more impressive than it sounds. After all, in this day of retro hair-metal tours featuring slapdash versions of original lineups (Ratt, Warrant and Skid Row are all missing their most famous players), Bret Michaels & Co., purveyors of such hits as Talk Dirty to Me and Unskinny Bop, have remained relatively loyal when it's come to sharing the AquaNet. And even though hair-metal hasn't been hot for about 20 years, Poison and touring mates Cinderella are nevertheless playing the St. Pete Times Forum during their summer swing to the Tampa Bay area. That's a long way from slumming it with Quiet Riot in the Ramada Inn cocktail lounge.

Poison and Cinderella perform Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. $25-$75. (813) 287-8844, (727) 898-2100 or (813) 301-2500.
