Computing revolution could sprout from 'chaos'

By DAVE GUSSOW
Published August 21, 2006

There's "chaos" at the University of Florida, and it could revolutionize computing. That's according to PC Magazine, which in a feature in its Aug. 8 edition called "The 10 Coolest Technologies You've Never Heard Of," listed William Ditto's work on "chaos computing" as No. 2.

Ditto, chairman of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UF, is researching the idea that one chip in a computer can handle all the functions. Yet it's more than streamlining the number of chips. Software would be able to adjust the chip as someone worked to direct more resources, such as memory, where needed.

A demonstration chip is expected by January, the magazine reported, and Ditto has set up a Gaines-ville company called ChaoLogix.
