Barons wake up after first game

St. Petersburg Catholic started slow but finished with a flurry Tuesday to remain undefeated with an 11-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 win over visiting Northside Christian.

"We came out flat," SPC coach Gary Preston said. "Volleyball is a game of momentum and we picked it up and finished strong."

Megan Denny was stellar for SPC, posting team highs in assists (12) and aces (six). Kate Carl led SPC (2-0) with eight kills and Karla Palacios added six.

IRC 3, TAMPA CATHOLIC 0: Tabitha Henley's 22 assists, five aces and 11 digs led Indian Rocks Christian (2-0) past visiting Tampa Catholic 25-20, 25-14, 25-21. IRC's Jessica Jones had a team-high 21 digs while Liz Zeitler finished with nine digs. The Golden Eagles' Kenzie Reynolds and Brianne Yeates each had seven kills.

LAKESIDE CHR. 3, CARROLWOOD DAY 0: Lakeside Christian improved to 2-2 with a 25-6, 25-5, 25-4 home win. Bethany Holman and Becky Grenelle had eight aces each and Lauren Dugan paced Lakeside Christian with seven assists.

COUNTRYSIDE 3, PINELLAS PARK 0: The visiting Cougars swept the Patriots 25-13, 25-12, 25-11. The Patriots' Sandra Keller finished with six kills and Kelsey Green added 12 digs.

LARGO 3, SEMINOLE 1: The host Packers used a strong service game to move to 2-1 with a 25-13, 28-30, 25-10, 25-18 win. Largo's Lauren Elsworth led the way with 20 aces, including eight consecutive at one point.

 

Game highlights
