MUST-SEE FOOTBALL GAMES

Friday, Boca Ciega at Countryside: This was one of the more exciting games last season with the Pirates almost pulling off the upset. This year's version features coaches (Pirates' Stevie Thomas and Cougars' John Davis) who are offensive specialists.

Sept. 1, Northside Chr. at Calvary Chr.: This game is on the radar screen because of a milestone. Mustangs coach Bob Dare is going for his 100th career win.

Sept. 1, Dunedin at Tarpon Springs: Call this the Worthy Jackson Bowl. In the spring, Jackson played with the Spongers, though he was still a Falcon. The Florida High School Athletic Association investigated the matter, fined Tarpon Springs $450 and ruled Jackson ineligible to play his senior season. Expect emotions to run high.

Sept. 15, Bradenton Southeast at Northeast: The Vikings played the Seminoles tough last season. Northeast has a talented backfield that can put up big numbers and give Southeast fits.

Sept. 15, Dixie Hollins at Largo: This game has helped decide playoff berths the past few years. The Packers have had the better results, winning three of the past four.

Sept. 29, Boca Ciega at Osceola: The Warriors are improved, as evidenced by wins against Largo in the spring and Dunedin in last week's preseason kickoff classic. This is their first big district test.

Sept. 29, East Lake at Dunedin: For those who love defensive struggles. Last season, the Falcons won 3-0.

Oct. 6, Lakeland Victory at Keswick Chr.: The Crusaders made sure to mark this game on their calender. Victory Christian, formerly Evangel Christian, beat Keswick in the 2005 regular season en route to a state title. The Crusaders get this one at home.

Oct. 6, CC Catholic at SP Catholic: Every year since 1975, hundreds of students from both schools have converged to be part of the struggle between the only two Catholic institutions in the county that play football. SPC will be looking to exact revenge after losing last season.

Oct. 13, Countryside at Dunedin: Both teams reserve special venom for each other in this district game. Last season, the Falcons lost after a failed two-point conversion.

Oct. 27, Boca Ciega at Bradenton Bayshore: Bruins coach Jean Gordon faces his former team. The Pirates in overtime last season and failed to make the playoffs.
