INVERNESS - Star running back Antoin Scriven may have run for 132 yards and two touchdowns during Citrus' 48-3 win over St. Cloud on Friday, but that was expected.
It was Cameron West's wild lob, born from a desperate scramble, that St. Cloud never saw coming.
With five minutes left in the first quarter, the sophomore quarterback put all doubters to rest. With his back to the line and three rushers on his heels, West flicked the ball 15 yards to Colton Carlson for Citrus' first touchdown.
Despite expectations of a run-dominated game, West's air raid continued at will. In only 21/2 quarters of play, West passed or 213 yards and five touchdowns, striking three times from outside the red zone.
His favorite receiver was Geoff Blotz, who had 72 receiving yards, including a 45-yard touchdown catch. St. Cloud only completed one pass all night.
"I expected it to be a closer game, but they just gave us everything on the pass," Citrus coach Rik Haines said in the lockerroom, shouting over the celebration.
"If you're a quarterback and they play three-deep like that all game, you should be licking at your chops."
