Millage rate to be discussed, voted on

The River Basin Board wants to keep it at the same 0.265 mills.

The Withlacoochee River Basin Board has set the millage rate for the next fiscal year at 0.265 mills, the same rate it is now.

That means the owner of a $125,000 home with a $25,000 homestead exemption will pay $26.50.

The Withlacoochee River Basin includes about half of Citrus County, including Inverness, Citrus Springs and Floral City. It also includes parts of Pasco, Sumter, Hernando, Marion, and Levy counties.

The basin boards "offer a local perspective to water management projects and programs. They focus on water-related issues and projects, and they provide programs and budgets to address these concerns," according to a description on the Web site for the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The increase will fund a $10.2-million budget, an increase of about $1.6-million from last year. That budget includes $192,757 to help upgrade the reclaimed water capabilities at the Meadowcrest wastewater treatment plant and provide reclaimed water to two golf courses at Black Diamond Ranch.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District's governing board will hold two hearings to discuss and ultimately vote on the proposed millage rate. The hearings will be at 5:01 p.m. Sept. 12 and 15 at the Swiftmud Tampa Service Office, 7601 Highway 301.
