Single-minded Giants keep up playoff charge

SAN FRANCISCO - It took well into the second half for the Giants to start playing with the urgency manager Felipe Alou has been looking for all season. Now San Francisco isn't even thinking about the wild card, with the West still anybody's division. Shea Hillenbrand homered for the second straight game for No. 100 in his career and Noah Lowry won back-to-back starts for the first time all season, leading the Giants to their 10th win in 13 games. "I see the guys understanding that we don't have time or room to make mistakes," Alou said. "We can't afford to beat ourselves. They know that. The time left is not that big. The shot is legitimate." Hillenbrand hit a two-run shot in the seventh for San Francisco, which pulled within three games of the Reds in the wild-card race. The Reds lost their second in a row three games into a seasonlong 10-game, 11-day road trip. Notable: Giants leftfielder Barry Bonds needs one walk for his 13th straight season of 100, which would tie Babe Ruth for most ever.
