Two arrested in rash of pickup break-ins

TAMPA - Deputies have accused two Tampa men in a series of pickup break-ins.

Lewresley Smith, 20, of 6905 Suwannee River Drive and Andre Hodge, 31, of 8618 N 14th St. each face 22 counts of vehicle burglary, three counts of armed vehicle burglary, 15 counts of grand theft, six counts of petty theft, and 22 counts of criminal mischief, dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawn broker, according to arrest reports.

Deputies say the men would target Ford pickup trucks, earning them the nickname the "F Series Felons." The men are accused of breaking into the trucks by popping door locks open with a screwdriver, then snatching property out of the trucks and pawning the stolen goods.

Many of the items taken were jewelry, cash, cameras and laptop computers, deputies say.

Investigators say the men targeted trucks parked at hotels, motels and the Dallas Bull Lounge on U.S. 301.

The pair were arrested Friday at a local pawnshop.
