Hot Ticket: The way we were

We're not sure what a greased pig contest has to do with life in Pioneer Florida, but it's the newest addition to the 32-year-old Pioneer Florida Days celebration.

Held at the Pioneer Florida Museum near Dade City on Labor Day weekend each year, the festival includes Civil War encampments and living history demonstrations, plus other entertainment, among the museum's 10 historic buildings.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Daily admission is $6 adults, $2 ages 6-15. (352) 567-0262, www.pioneerfloridamuseum.org.

Special events include a free pancake breakfast for the first 500 people through the gate Saturday; the greased pig contest at 11 a.m. Saturday; and a Civil War re-enactment at 3 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The Pioneer Florida Museum is off U.S. 301 N, 1 mile north of Dade City.
