Greg Olson: One to watch
By Times Staff
Published September 1, 2006
GREG OLSEN, TIGHT END TOP TALENT Many consider Olsen the top tight end in the college game. He's a favorite for the John Mackey Award, and coaches say he could be better than former Miami greats Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr. and Bubba Franks. CLUTCH TARGET Olsen has 47 catches for 726 yards, averaging 15.4 yards per catch, with five touchdowns. Last year against FSU, he caught eight passes for 137 yards. "We know what he did to us last year," FSU coach Bobby Bowden said. "We are very concerned about him, and we must have a plan." IRISH EYES ARE CRYING A highly recruited Parade All-American, Olsen started his career briefly at Notre Dame before transferring to Miami. FOOTBALL FAMILY Olsen's brother, Christian, is the starting quarterback for Virginia.
