JACKSONVILLE

WHERE: Jacksonville.

ENROLLMENT: 2,972.

NICKNAME: Dolphins.

COACH: Steve Gilbert (32-48, eighth season; 72-96 in 17 seasons overall).

CONFERENCE: Pioneer League (I-AA nonscholarship).

LAST SEASON: 4-4.

LOCAL TIES: DB Stephan Knight (Hillsborough), RB Cecil Coltrane (Riverview), DB Byron Berthelot (Shorecrest Prep), RB Anthony Catalano (Seminole), DL Jason Greenwood (Clearwater), OL Joe Vitale (Springstead), OL Zach Huffmon (River Ridge), OL David Locander (Tampa Catholic), TE Charles Lusk (Plant City), DL Austin Knipp (Plant City), DE Micro Zanella (East Lake).

STADIUM: D.B. Milne Field (5,000).

OUTLOOK: Jacksonville must replace a trio of stars in all-time leading tackler Brandon Torre (career 277 tackles), receiver Eldin Ferguson (29 rceptions, 483 yards, five touchdowns) and safety Bernard Opoku 53 tackles, two interceptions). The Dolphins' strength appears to be the secondary, where Bryan Flowers (31 tackles) and Leighton Henderson (one interception) will defend the corners. Offensively, Jacksonville returns six starters including quarterback Chris Horton (1,176 total yards of offense), running back Jerry Brant (434 yards in six games) and lineman Pat Rich (first-team All-Pioneer). Another glaring loss was that of seasoned rusher Chad Davis (ran for 325 yards in three games).
