The Student Athlete Recruiting Task Force meeting that was canceled Tuesday because of Tropical Storm Ernesto has been re-scheduled for Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. The Official of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability, which is running the task force, has not chosen a venue for the meeting.
Formed early this summer by state legislature as a response to new rules adopted by the Florida High School Athletic Association governing transfers, the task force is responsible for examining the problem of recruiting among high schools in the state and developing a list of recommendations on how to deal with the issue.
The FHSAA would like to institute rules that force students who transfer to forfeit a year of varsity competition. Many, including a faction of private schools, believe the rules are unfair. The first meeting was held July 12 at Plant High. The second will focus mainly on input from the public. A third meeting is scheduled for Oct. 24.
