OCALA - Big plays can kill. West Port didn't have any shortage of them in its 34-7 victory over Citrus.
West Port (2-0) senior quarterback Adrian Nunn passed for 240 yards and threw touchdown passes of 53, 45 and 16. Sophomore defensive back John McNair picked off a Cameron West pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown.
Without carries of 42 and 46 yards, Citrus' star back, Antoin Scriven, would have had negative yardage on his 17 carries for 79 yards. The Hurricanes had less than 100 yards of total offense.
The Wolfpack defense stonewalled West, who went 4-for-20 for 49 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown pass to Derek Paquette, and two interceptions.
West Port running back Matthew Boone opened it up late in the first quarter on a 39-yard run that nearly finished in the end zone when Paquette's mad dash ended the play on the 3-yard line.
Junior running back Dennis Jenkins finished the drive, cutting through the middle on the next play to make it 7-0.
After Citrus (1-1) went 3-and-out, Nunn dropped back and rocketed his 53-yarder to James Kinsler, who caught it near the 3-yard line before dashing in the end zone to set the tone early in the second quarter.
