Buffett maximizes value in wedding-day dealings

By KRIS HUNDLEY
Published September 4, 2006

Warren Buffett, the world's second-richest man, was characteristically frugal when he married for the second time on Wednesday.

The 15-minute ceremony, to longtime companion Astrid Menks, was held at his daughter's home in Omaha, Neb.

Buffett, 76, patronized a local jewelry store owned by his conglomerate, Berkshire Hathaway, to buy a ring for Menks, 60. He reportedly got the employee discount. For the reception, however, Buffett chose a restaurant whose parent company's stock he has ejected from the Berkshire portfolio.

Buffett, whose company once held 1.8-million shares of OSI Inc. of Tampa, took his new bride to moderately priced Bonefish Grill. No word on whether they split the tab.
