Growth of per-capita income dips

Per-capita personal income growth slowed in the Tampa Bay area and most other U.S. metro areas last year, the government reported Wednesday. In the Tampa Bay area, per-capita personal income rose 4.2 percent to $33,008, compared with a 4.4 percent increase last year. Nationally, per-capita income in metro areas was $36,048, up 3.98 percent, compared with last year's 4.9 percent gain. Five areas where military bases dominate the economy were among the top 10 for personal income growth. Auto industry strongholds in the Midwest were among the slowest-growing, along with areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Total personal income grew 5 percent nationally and 6.7 percent in the Tampa Bay area.
