Iorio to host town hall meeting at high school

OLD SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Mayor Pam Iorio hosts the final 2006 town hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsborough High School, 5000 N Central Ave.

The meeting is open to the public. City administrators and department representatives will be available to answer residents' questions. Call 274-7835.

Police chief to speak at military officers' luncheon

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE - Tampa police Chief Stephen Hogue will be the guest speaker at the Tampa chapter of the Military Officers Association of America's monthly luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday at the MacDill Air Force Base Officers' Club.

Active duty, reserve, national guard, retired and former officers are invited to attend. For reservations, call 218-3413.

Orchid expert will address garden circle Tuesday

FAIR OAKS/MANHATTAN MANOR - Caring for orchids will be the topic of Moonlight Garden Circle's September meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jan Platt Library, 3910 Manhattan Ave.

South Tampa orchid professor Steve Miciak will speak. Call 251-5059.

Convention bureau chief to speak at chamber lunch

YBOR CITY - Steve Hayes, executive vice president of the Tampa Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be the featured speaker during the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce's monthly luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Columbia Restaurant, 2117 E Seventh Ave.

The cost is $20 for members and $22 to $24 for guests at the door. Call 248-3712, ext. 22.

Fifth Third Foundation awards $10,000 grant

TAMPA - Fifth Third Foundation recently gave a $10,000 grant to A Gift for Teaching of Tampa, which provides children and teachers school supplies and other basic tools for learning.

Participating schools are based on the percentage of students enrolled in the federal free/reduced lunch program.
