Men's, co-ed softball leagues seeking members

If you have any interest in joining an Oldsmar men's or co-ed softball league, the deadline to register is Wednesday. Create a team with friends, family or co-workers. Call Adam Elhassen, senior recreation coordinator, at 813 749-1290.

Ceremony at 9/11 monument

To commemorate the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, Oldsmar Fire Rescue created a monument earlier this year featuring part of a steel girder from one of the World Trade Center towers. The names of the 343 firefighters who died that day are etched into the bricks of the walkway. The public is invited to attend a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the station, 225 Pine Ave. N. The event includes an honor guard, the laying of a wreath, prayers, a bagpiper and refreshments. Call (813) 749-1200.

Kung fu, tai chi offered at rec center

At the Cypress Forest Recreation Center, 650 Pine Ave. N, Oldsmar Parks and Recreation is offering the following programs :

- Kid's Kung Fu for children ages 4 to 8, from 5 to 6 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $50 monthly. Call (813) 818-0149.

- Adult Tai Chi for teens ages 16 to adults, from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $45 monthly. Call (813) 818-0149.

City Council gets new meeting dates

Due to conflicts such as Election Day, the Oldsmar City Council will not meet on the usual Tuesdays in September. It will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 in the council chambers at 100 State St. W.

Add your story to oral history project

The Oldsmar Public Library and the Oldsmar Historical Society are working together to collect oral histories of those living in Oldsmar.

If you would like to create an oral history of your life, the library will provide a cassette recorder and two blank minicassettes with instructions. Call (813) 749-1178.

Ski team gives a free show on Saturdays

The Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team will perform a free show at 6 p.m. Saturday and on Sept. 30 on Tower Lake.

Tower Lake is behind the Oldsmar Flea Market. To get to the show from Tampa Road, go north on Race Track Road, left on Douglas Road and left at the small ski team sign.
