HERE WE GO AGAIN

Here's a shocker: Leeann Eble won a race.

Actually, it's no shock considering Eble was the Times' girls Runner of the Year in 2005. She began her second cross country season with a win at the Gator Invitational on Saturday with a time of 20 minutes, 32 seconds. Eble's personal best was 19:11 at the Sunshine Athletic Conference meet last season. That was on a road course.

LIONS ON FIRE

Saint Leo swept the soccer Player of the Week honors from the Sunshine State Conference, as Lizzie Seedhouse and Asmir Pervan, right, were chosen Monday.

Seedhouse, a junior from Sheffield, England, helped anchor the women's impenetrable defense as the 24th-ranked Lions beat Montevallo and North Alabama by 1-0 scores this weekend. Saint Leo 5-0-1, 1-0 SSC has allowed just one goal in six matches.

Pervan was selected Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals and adding an assist as the Lions split a pair of matches. Pervan had three goals in a 5-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic.

READER'S VOICE

Mathew McFadden says he speaks for a group of Hudson fans upset with articles referencing the Cobras' 2005 region final team. He writes, "We are well tired of getting looked over just because the departure of 19 seniors. There are still great football players going out every Friday and not getting any recognition like Jake McFadden. This week he rushed for 156 yards and one touchdown along with receiving yards and was not even thought about in this week's top rushers or top players. These Hudson Cobra fans want to look toward the future, not back to the season of 2005. There are players every week going out and playing their hearts out on Friday nights, having top performances and being overlooked because of the 2005 season. I truly think this needs to end because we may not have the best record but there are many good football players on Hudson. - Sincerely, the Cobra fans!"
